Hot Wheels and Cool Dudes!8th Annual Hot August Niles by Susana Nuñez
"Classy!" "Boss!" "Hot!" No matter how these vehicles are described, they represent an era that bid farewell too soon. Many of these classics are a rare sight since maintenance ranges in the thousands, but to their infatuated owners it's worth every cent. All the effort is worth it when they gather to show off their set of wheels to one another. And what better place to do just that than at a "hot" car show, listening to "oldies" on an August day in Niles! For car fanatics and adherents to America's love affair with muscle cars and the open road, Hot August Niles, sponsored by Niles Merchants Association, is the place to be!
This year's Hot August Nights Classic Car Show will, again, attract a large crowd of admirers from the Tri-City area and beyond. The event will - appropriately - be held in the historic downtown of the Niles District, known for its Old West charm, eclectic stores and its place in history as the early home of silent films. Last year's highlights included a 1923 Ford T-Bucket and an incredible, fully-restored 1965 Chevy. This year, again, Niles Boulevard will be lined with classic cars and their proud owners.
The annual event is a magnet for classic car aficionados year after year, including members of the Classic Car Club and the Northern California Chevy GMC Club. Classic Cruisers member Jack Brown introduced his prized possession to the Niles show last year. "This is a 1965 Ford. I've had the car for twenty years and I just started working on it about five years ago." It was time to show it off! Hayward resident Dan Ramos showed up last year with his 1923 Ford T-Bucket. "This is my first year out here, and I think it's great!"
The 8th Annual Hot August Niles Show will take place on Saturday, August 21st, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shops will be open to the public for browsing and shopping and food and refreshments will be available. Although the pre-registration deadline was on August 10, those interested in displaying their car can still register the day of the event with a fee of $25 per vehicle. Participants must be registered by 9 a.m. Early departures are unacceptable.
