Ohlone in Bangalore
Ohlone College has teamed up with Cisco Systems to provide network training to the company's employees in both the United States and in Bangalore, the "Silicon Valley" of India. Ohlone College professor Richard Grotegut of the school's computer science department was chosen by Cisco to teach a networking course to Cisco employees, including project managers, software engineers and technical writers, in India this summer. Professor Grotegut traveled to Bangalore the week of July 12th for the first session, which covered hands-on training. Much of the course is web-based, with Grotegut in the United States and the students in India.
The web-based training includes simulated and remote lab work. The students can remotely access equipment located at Ohlone College, using the 14-hour time difference to do their lab work while Ohlone students sleep and vice versa. The training also includes two weeklong sessions in India.
