2003-2004 has been an interesting year for Star Struck Musical Theatre. Starting with the musical "Into the Woods" last summer at Mission San Jose High School's little theatre and continuing with "Honk" at Ohlone's Smith Center and "Oliver" at Broadway West Theatre, the Tri-city community has been entertained with high caliber musicals. This summer, Star Struck Musical Theatre director, Lori Stokes will treat the community to a musical performed outdoors at Ohlone's amphitheatre.
Bye Bye Birdie is a popular American musical set in the 1950s. The story revolves around a Rock & Roll music star, Conrad Birdie, who is like Elvis Presley, his manager Albert Peterson and the Peterson's secretary, Rose. Conrad Birdie who is very popular among teenagers has just received news of being inducted into the army. The news is not well received by his manager since Albert depends on the success of Conrad Birdie to pay off his financial debts. However, Rose feels that Birdie's induction could be the best thing for her boss. Peterson can now leave the music industry and go back to academia to be an English teacher and settle down with her.
Albert and Rose concoct a last national publicity plan before Conrad leaves for the army. Conrad will be kissing a lucky fan on the Ed Sullivan Show. Fifteen year old Kim MacAfee from Sweet Apple Ohio is the winner. Will Conrad kiss Kim? Does Kim's boyfriend Hugo have anything to worry about? Will Albert Peterson become an English teacher and marry Rose?
