Union City Fall Festival of the Arts
by Diane La Moutaine
Union City is launching its first Fall Festival of the Arts. The anchor setting will be Paddy's Coffee House, at 3900 Smith Street. Paddy Iyer, owner, has a passion for the arts and supports local artists by displaying their works on a regular basis. This past May, the Arts Council shifted its annual Sharing of the Arts event to Paddy's. The event was so successful, the idea to launch a Fall Festival was born and a Festival Committee was formed to make it happen. Sponsoring the event so far, UC Friends / UC Leisure Services/ urdesignco / Paddy's Coffee UC Chamber of Commerce / Tri City Voice / Tri-Ced / Laine Grant Consulting / EBS Virtual Communications / La Mountaine Designs / UC Arts Council / Waste Management / UC Police and Fire Departments
Committee member, Diane La Mountaine said "We'll be launching this
first event with space for about 25 booths on the lawn and parking lot area behind Paddy's. Art, crafts, food and wine will be featured, along with some great music! Groups and entertainers will be announced soon. We wanted to start small, and see how it goes, with the intention of adding more booth space, and possibly moving into the park with the Farmers Market next year."
The event will be held on October 9, 2004, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Following the close of the festival, a silent auction, featuring many beautiful pieces of art and crafts will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Paddy's. Proceeds will go to select local charities.
