Carisma 2004
Following a performance at a debutante ball in 1999, a group of young performers decided to continue providing entertainment for the community. "They enthusiastically joined together with a common goal - to utilize their God-given talents in making people happy, especially the elderly, the sick, the needy and the youth." The result was the formation of a nonprofit organization, called Youth Embracing Luv (YEL).
Each year, the CARISMA ("gift" in Latin) project of YEL develops a theme and presentation to reach out to the community. This year, CARISMA presents Family Fun Fest 2004 on Saturday, July 10, 2004. This event will be divided into two sessions, a day session from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and an evening event beginning at 6 p.m.
The FREE day session will be filled with activities for the whole family including a talent show, discussions of "dialogue," a multi-cultural fashion show, games, food booths, and informational tables from different collaborating community agencies. Agencies represented will be both faith and non-faith based organizations.
An evening session will feature a Hawaiian Luau dinner dance. Music will be provided by the Vintage Plus Band. A $20 donation for the evening event will help fund future YEL projects to help seniors, the needy, the sick and youth.
CARISMA needs assistance from coordinators, talent show performers, volunteer workers, artists and others with the desire to help. For more information about YEL or the CARISMA project, call Minda or Rachelle Reyes (510) 739-0714 or email youth_embracing_luv@juno.com.
