June 14th, 2004Undersized and Undermanned Boys Volleyball Team Captures League Title by Dana Mata
The Christian Community Schools (CCS Cougars) 2004 Boys Volleyball Team just completed a Cinderella season. They captured the Western Division regular season 1st place title of BACSAL (Bay Area Christian Schools Athletic League), ending with a 7-1 record, after beating undefeated arch rival, King's Academy of Sunnyvale, in their final at home league game. Over 100 CCS fans cheered the team on to victory, while the CCS Cougars were aggressively serving, blocking, diving, digging, setting, and spiking! Unfortunately, the CCS Cougars were devastated by illness in the final playoff round and were eliminated after losing two matches.
Throughout the 2004 volleyball season the CCS Cougars were undersized and undermanned, fielding only 11 boys on the team. Coach Ms. Dana Mata, and Assistant Coaches Brad Monk and Nancy Vasko, credited the boys with scappiness and hustle in the face of bigger, stronger opposition, showing a "can-do" winning attitude. "The boys played with perseverance and with a lot of heart all year long," said Coach Mata. "After losing early in the season to King's Academy, they were determined not to lose again. They were and are true team players, with great sportsmanship. We are all very proud of them."
The 2004 CCS Boys Volleyball Team Roster included: 8th graders Josh Uy, Cory Louie, Chris Focht, Brad Shein, Ramsey Khedr, Chris Droste, Andrew Lee, Allan Hsu, and 6th graders Brandon Bulat, Jeffrey Wilson, and Seth Eddings. Each player brought his unique and varied skills to the court. |
