Annual Fremont Garden Tour Set for June 5th
by Arathi Satish
The Fremont Garden Club is conducting a garden tour featuring 11 homes in the Gomes and Glenmoor neighborhoods on Saturday, June 5th 2004. Houses on the tour feature a wide variety of gardens from the formal to the eclectic according to Kathy Hesser, Vice President of the Fremont Garden Club and this year's Garden Tour Chairperson.
In existence for over two years, the club grew out of the Glenmoor Garden Tour. This tour is a celebration of the neighborhood and pride of ownership. It is a great time for folks to share gardening tips, get ideas and chat with neighbors. The tour encourages civic beautification, promotes a sense of community and stimulates greater knowledge of gardening.
The 2004 Garden Tour will include five gardens in Glenmoor and six in the Gomes area, all but one new this year. Some are homeowner designed whiles others are professionally landscaped. The tour will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It will start at Gomes Park, 555 Lemos Lane, off Paseo Padre Parkway and Gomes Road. Kathy Hesser points out, "We just want to share with the community some of the beautiful and creative yards out there. It really brings neighbors out and celebrates our community!"
Membership is open to everyone, whether a Fremont resident or not. The club meets monthly from February through November and charges an annual fee of $25. Events planned for the coming months include:
June: Garden Tour, "Plant Swap"
July: Tour of master gardener's garden in Livermore.
August: Walking Tour with a botanist.
September: Trip to local nursery to learn about new and unusual plants.
October Social: "All about Grapes," "Make A Difference Day"
November: "Getting Ready for Winter"
