Practicum KidsSummer 2004 Camps
Practicum Kids, a popular and unique educational enrichment program for elementary school children in Fremont is offering week-long summer camps through City of Fremont's Recreation Services Department and Ohlone For Kids. Practicum Kids & the City of Fremont - (http://regerec.ci.fremont.ca.us/Activities) are designed for 6-9 year olds, and themes include:
All About Money & Banks! All About Reading & Bookstores! All About TV Stations! All About Nutrition & Healthy Habits! All About Doctors, Health & Hospitals! All About Community Helpers!
Each theme offers an opportunity to learn about how things are run and what people do in their everyday lives. Each camp session also includes a field trip to a local business or organization within the City. Beginning the week of June 21, camps are held M-F with both full and half day options, and are located at Central Park Visitors Service Center at Lake Elizabeth. Extended care is also available through the Recreation Services Department.
Practicum Kids & Ohlone For Kids - New this year, Practicum Kids has partnered with the popular Ohlone for Kids program to offer four week-long camps beginning June 28 catered to 4th-6th graders - (http://www.ohlone.cc.ca.us/org/ohloneforkids/camps.html). Themes include:
All About Entrepreneurship! All About Local Government! All About Money & Stocks!
The program's goal is to teach children about business, government, and issues that affect our everyday lives. "Children love to learn about things that affect them day to day, and offering classes in 'practical knowledge' is a great way to educate them about what people do for a living, how decisions are made in our city, or what you need to think about when starting your own business," states Asha Chandra, founder of the program.
For example, in the Entrepreneur session, kids learn about starting their own businesses. Kids brainstorm business ideas, develop a business plan, create advertising, present their ideas amongst their peers, run their businesses for a day, and finally, discuss what they could have done differently. "Children love to put their creative thinking caps on, and dream up all kinds of businesses," states Jan Bergeson, 3rd grade Mission San Jose Elementary teacher, who will be teaching the program in the summer.
Each theme will offer children a chance to work in a team, whether 'building a company' in Entrepreneurship, learning about investments and Wall Street in Money & Stocks, or participating in a mock city council meeting in Local Government. Guest speakers for each session will include local business and government leaders. The camps are held weekly at Weibel Elementary School from June 28-July July 22. Classes fill up quickly; early registration is recommended. For more information, visit www.practicumkids.com or email info@practicumkids.com. Tel: (510) 573-2211. |
