10th Annual Benefit Race by Arathi Satish
The 10th Annual Ducks For Bucks Benefit Race is scheduled for Saturday, April 24th, 2004, at Lake Elizabeth, Fremont. All Tri City nonprofit agencies, service clubs and schools are invited to a "Quackers and Cheese Party". The race is produced and operated by the Kiwanis Club of Fremont and is considered to be one of the premier community service fundraisers in the Tri-City communities of Fremont, Newark and Union City.
Donors "adopt" ducks to achieve fund raising goals. More than 35 nonprofit organizations, including schools, League of Volunteers, Kiwanis Club of Fremont, Ohlone Humane Society, sell ducks that will participate in the race. Over $54,431 was raised for local charities in 2003 race.
Attractive prizes await the winners of the race. Prizes include $1,000,000 Prize, Grand Prize for a trip for two to Orlando, Florida, professional massage therapy at Tereo Chiropractic, carpeting from Signature Carpet One and Floor Covering, A trip for two to Washington DC, etc. If you guess the number of "Ducks in the Hatch" at Central Chevrolet and if your pulled ticket is correct, you win a Chevy Aveo.
Fremont City Council is fully supporting the race for a second year. This year's Race Marshal is Tommy T. Winston, trainer to sports stars. He is currently training San Francisco Giants star Barry Bonds, and football stars Jerry Rice and J. J. Stokes. He is an eighth-degree black belt on Shotokan Karate, Aikido and Tae Kwan Do and a five-time world lightweight kickboxing champion.
This year's event includes food, beverages, prizes, a pie-eating contest and a family carnival with games. Ducks for Bucks will be held at the Lake Elizabeth, Paseo Padre Parkway, Fremont on Saturday, April 24th, 2004.
