NUMMI Vice President Pat Pineda named to California Commission for Jobs and Economic Growthby Rhonda Rigenhagen
New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. Vice President Pat Pineda was asked by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to join more than two dozen of California's top business, labor, academic and philanthropic leaders in an effort to bring jobs, investment and tourism back to California.
Schwarzenegger said the California Commission for Jobs and Economic Growth will provide a vehicle for leaders outside of government to assist him in his effort to restore the state's economic vitality. Pineda is NUMMI's VP of Human Resources and Legal.
In a press release issued earlier this month, Schwarzenegger reiterated his promise to bring jobs back to California. "In my State of the State address, I promised to become California's Jobs Czar," Schwarzenegger reflected. "I said I was going to travel the nation and the world to find the employers that will provide jobs to put Californians back to work and add revenue to the state budget."
The commission will focus on finding companies interested in locating in California or at risk of leaving the state; identifying legislative, regulatory and administrative barriers to hiring California workers; and marketing California products and destinations.
"It is a great honor to join such a distinguished group of individuals in an effort to revive California." Pineda said. "I look forward to working side-by-side with commission members as well as state and local government to do what it takes to bring back and retain companies in California, and well as to attract tourism and investment dollars," she added.
The commission will work with other organizations active in employment promotion and economic development, including the more than 500 local and regional economic development corporation and chambers of commerce around the state, the California Chamber of Commerce, community and state colleges and universities and trade organizations.
