The stars come out at Cannes, Sundance and...Paddy's
by Ceri Hitchcock-Hodgson
Over the past few years, Paddy's coffee house in Union City has transformed from a quaint java shop in to a lively center for local artists to meet and display their work. Open Mic nights, jazz concerts and art shows are just a few of the cultural events that have taken place at Paddy's, located in the historic Alvarado section of Union City. In continuing with its commitment to providing entertainment to the community, Paddy's introduces its Student Film Festival, showing every Friday in June at 8:30 p.m.
The films, each 10 to 15 minutes long, will showcase films by students from James Logan High School, California State University, East Bay, and Ohlone College. The month-long festival will include documentaries, Claymation shorts and instructional films among others. Guests are encouraged to bring law chairs and blankets as all movies will be shown on the back courtyard "theatre" lawn.
The festival is free and everyone is welcome. For more information, call (510) 324 8572. Paddy's is located at 3900 Smith St in Union City.
