You're a Good Man Charlie Brown - The Modern Musicalby Nitasha Sharma
Mission San Jose High School's Performing Arts Department exploded in a flurry of activity as this year's musical, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, opened. Cast and crew rushed around Mission High's Little Theatre putting the final touches on the show.
Based on Charles M. Schultz's cartoon strip, this modern musical is "Refreshing!" in the words of pit member, Tiffany Chang. "It is a way to relieve stress." The show is riddled with comic relief that punctuates the life of a disillusioned young boy, Charlie Brown.
"The show is delightful, and the students' outstanding performance makes this a "do not miss" show!" says Instrumental Director, Monica Kraft.
Students auditioned for roles in September of 2004, and they have been working hard on the vocal aspects of the show since then. The ensemble, consisting of over 20 people and sporting colorful Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers, dances across the stage to songs such as "Suppertime," and "Happiness."
All in all, the musical is great for families, and show times are earlier, at 7:30 p.m., so that young children can attend. Lori Stokes, artistic director of the productions is ecstatic with the talent of the young adults involved in the show. "It's a fun, colorful, upbeat, cheerful, snappy musical meant for any age."
